Using Google Latitude for Transportation Analytics

Setting up Google Latitude is easy. You just need to enable Google Latitude to track the driver’s phone, and view the driver’s location live or its history from your office, or even your smartphone.
To set up Google Latitude on driver’s smartphone
Step 1: Use your smartphone’s internet browser to access www.google.com/latitude. Download the application when prompted
Step 2: Use your google account to log into Google Latitude application. Allow “Latitude” to use the smartphone location. Set “Location Reporting” option to : “Detect your location”
Step 3: Go to Options, set “Background Updating” to ON
Step 4: Go to your office laptop or smartphone to browse to url: https://www.google.com/latitude.
Step 5: Go to “Dashboard” to change settings if needed

In terms of analysis, you can look at the KML file to see your time and location stamp

Open 2 or more KML files on Google Earth to overlay routes and determine if you can deliver more at one location at a time, rather than delivering everyday. All this analysis is free!
